The business challenge

Companies in industrial procurement face uncertainty that can change the value of a sale, a promotional promise or an operating budget. The commercial question is whether the outcome can be defined precisely enough to make a better decision before it happens.

What actually happened

Pillar, Kalshi and Susquehanna Predictions announced an event-contract hedge for an Ohio metals distributor exposed to tungsten input prices. The transaction referenced a benchmark for ammonium paratungstate and was structured for settlement on December 17, 2026. The firms described the contract as a response to a traditionally difficult-to-hedge supply-chain cost.

Why the mechanism matters

This is a specialized institutional transaction, not a retail promotion. The business application depends on creating a transparent settlement definition, finding a liquidity provider and mapping the benchmark to the physical exposure.

How IncentivPay or PMPS could apply

Illustrative scenario, not a claim that Pillar / Ohio metals distributor used our technology.

PMPS Intelligence could identify concentration in industrial input costs and explain eligible market candidates, missing contracts, basis risk and execution economics. Any customized contract or execution capability would require partners, market permissions and operational controls; the example does not imply PMPS already offers this service.

What a merchant should measure

  • Physical-price to contract-benchmark correlation
  • Hedge coverage and residual exposure
  • Spread, fees and funding requirements
  • Inventory margin volatility

Evidence and limitations

The transaction was announced before its December 2026 settlement. No subsequent payout, commercial performance or PMPS involvement was established.
