How Forme turned a World Cup moment into a fourfold traffic surge
Acquire & Convert · DTC apparel · Third-party industry example
A conditional refund gave shoppers a reason to buy during a cultural moment, without cutting the purchase price at checkout.

The business challenge
Companies in dtc apparel face uncertainty that can change the value of a sale, a promotional promise or an operating budget. The commercial question is whether the outcome can be defined precisely enough to make a better decision before it happens.
What actually happened
Forme offered 100% cashback on eligible product subtotals if the U.S. men’s team reached the 2026 World Cup final. The offer used a checkout code, and a third-party promotions provider, PlayAbly, handled underwriting using Kalshi. Modern Retail reported that Forme attributed a fourfold week-over-week increase in menswear traffic and nearly twentyfold traffic to its leading men’s styles to the promotion. The team did not make the final, so the conditional refunds were not triggered.
Why the mechanism matters
Customers paid the normal product price. The promotional promise was contingent on a verifiable future event. Forme paid a predetermined underwriting charge rather than simply assuming every possible cashback obligation. Traffic is not the same as orders, sales, or incremental profit.
How IncentivPay or PMPS could apply
Illustrative scenario, not a claim that Forme Science used our technology.
For an eligible DTC merchant, IncentivPay could suggest a relevant event, display an outcome-linked offer before purchase, cap the eligible reward per order, and connect verification and fulfillment to the merchant’s commerce flow. PMPS Intelligence could compare the event’s probability, promotion cost, expected conversion lift and margin before recommending launch.
What a merchant should measure
- Incremental conversion lift versus a holdout
- Revenue and contribution margin per eligible session
- Cost per incremental order, including hedge and platform fees
- Repeat purchase rate after the event
Evidence and limitations
The 4× and ~20× figures are brand-reported traffic measures; no verified sales lift, profit or return on advertising spend was published. A similar promotion requires jurisdiction-specific legal review and appropriate event rights.
